Nyma Tang
THE ART OF POWER
The Brief :
How do you protect Talent who go Viral? How do you nurture Mental Health when fame and material success operate at an overnight speed?
It is hard to summarize what makes a Career special, what makes a Talent special. This Documentary produced by YouTube Black does that effortlessly. The goal for my time leading the Nyma Tang Account was not to capitalize off Virality. The story never told is that going viral in a short amount of time, having an influx of attention, brand deals, work…can be a burden for those who are not prepared to carry that weight. A burden that is only amplified by reps who surround the fire and intend to capitalize off it for their own gain. Leaving the Talent burnt out and unprepared to build a sustainable career.
Nyma has an ability to help Women of Darker Skin feel seen and empowered in a World that ignores them. You can feel that Power in the Flowers Documentary; a Power that needed to be protected and nurtured. As Talent Manager, that was my only mission: protect, build, and nurture.
The Result:
Together, Nyma and I perfected a pace that allowed her space to discover herself and her true calling beyond the pull of The Darkest Shades series; space that allowed her to achieve a balance of success without burnout. Proving that Virality does not always require you to speed up. When there is true Power, talent, and intelligence at play, you can choose to force Virality to pace at your speed. Below is a sample of the magic we created moving at this speed.
Nyma’s best Career moments are ahead of her and I am deeply excited to see where she lends her Power next.

CVS Beauty Inclusivity Consultant
Nyma’s Career took off with the first upload of the “Darkest Shades” series. Within a year she amassed nearly 500,000 subscribers. The series was free Consulting work to brands who were ignoring Women of Darker skin with every product launch, every shade produced and not produced. Nyma, through the Darkest Shade series, gave powerful feedback that spoke for millions of consumers whose voices and opinions were not being amplified in the ways and rooms that mattered. Nyma’s free product feedback and the Power she held for her audience shifted consumer culture and Black Beauty as we know it.
As a part of the evolution of the “Darkest Shades” - I pitched to CVS a paid Consultancy Role, the first of it’s kind. This gave Nyma a seat at the table that mattered most; where she was able to give feedback on Marketing, Product Assortment, New Brand Acquisitions, Internal Comms, and much more - directly to the heads of CVS Beauty in real time.
As part of her Role, Nyma produced a Drugstore Masterclass alongside CVS Beauty. The series covered Hair, Skincare, and Makeup, focusing only on affordable products for all consumers.
